Abstract
Gordon Pask,
one of the world's premiere cyberneticians, passed away in March
1996 at age 67. In commemoration and celebration of his life
and work, this month's Cambridge Cybernetic Society will be dedicated
to a review of his contributions (theoretical, mechanical and
otherwise) to the worlds of cybernetics, machine intelligence,
and interactive and performance art.
This meeting will also be an opportunity for audience-participants
to ask questions about his life and work by engaging in a simulation
of his concept of linguistic interaction. All types of questions
are invited, including "What did Pask have against watches?",
"Why did his double-breasted jacket weigh 16 lbs?"
and "What's an entailment mesh anyway?"
A number of guests have been invited to support the event. Compère
for the meeting [compère: person at variety entertainment
who introduces the artistes, comments on the turns, etc.] will
be Paul Pangaro, who did his PhD dissertation research with
Pask, and collaborated with him on research programmes for their
clients and musicals for the stage. Pangaro also holds a large
collection of
Pask's papers that are available to researchers.
