6 Du Pont in Transition
Complementary to the technology of Conversations for Design are the design
of the internal social structures of organizations in support of Conversations
for Design, and the concomitant demand-activated production machine.
Placeholders for future conversations are:
the history of Du Pont and its evolution to the present state
the notion of "requisite variety" in countering the effects of
external change
the role of individual self-interest within the corporate whole
dynamic conservatism: energy in service of stasis, the immune system's response
to change
the new vertical corporation and the role of switching
Du Pont is a living system of many modes operating simultaneously. The transformations
in Du Pont will take place in the relations among these modes. The transformations
that appear "in Du Pont" are actually inclusive of transformations
in the world.
