Updated September 1, 2019:\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/b><\/span>We have just received an important piece of Colloquy history.<\/span>\u00a0Mark Dowson, responsible for the electronics of the original Colloquy of Mobiles from 1968, had an exchange in 2005 with <\/span>Margit Rosen<\/a>, long-time devotee of <\/span>Colloquy<\/a>. Dowson reveals\u00a0additional details \u00a0about\u00a0Colloquy’s behaviors, especially in regard to the sounds made by the mobiles (no known audio recording exists). This increases the importance of the funding we are seeking for upgrades before shipping Colloquy 2018 to Europe. Please visit our <\/span>funding campaign<\/a>. Thank you!<\/span><\/p>\n

Colloquy awaiting reanimation and upgrades at Omnicorp Collective, Detroit<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Colloquy replica represents the design power of the city of Detroit!<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

The COLLOQUY 2018 Project was undertaken at the College for Creative Studies<\/span><\/a> in Detroit, with generous support from private donors as well as the University of Waterloo (Canada) and Design Core Detroit<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the Spring 2018 semester and the following summer months, the Masters in Interaction Design program<\/span><\/a> hosted the creation of the replica from scratch, led by master fabricator TJ McLeish, who\u00a0developed design plans from the historical record of the original 1968 Colloquy of Mobiles by Gordon Pask. TJ has been responsible for mechatronics,\u00a0<\/span>fabrication, digital hardware \/ software design and execution<\/span>. The result is of such high quality that the world-class venues of Centre Pompidou<\/span><\/a> and ZKM<\/span><\/a> want to exhibit it. <\/span><\/p>\n

In the next phase of reanimating Colloquy 2018 and making upgrades, TJ continues in the role of master fabricator. Paul Pangaro has been responsible for the concept, scientific advice, and overall direction of the COLLOQUY 2018 Project.<\/p>\n

The reanimation is taking place now at Omnicorp Collective<\/a>\u00a0in Eastern Market in Detroit, a perfect place to join the community of makers that represent Detroit’s design spirit.<\/p>\n
